The European Union’s growing interest in biofuels is increasing. Currently, Russia is the third largest exporter of wood pellets to the EU, after the United States and Canada. With the coming abolition of the very high tax on ethanol, ethanol production in Russia will be also increasing. In addition, global companies are starting to build new manufacturing plants in Russia with the use of alternative energy (solar, biogas and biodiesel).
For much of the past 15 to 20 years Russian business has outperformed most other global markets and been on par with China as the best performing organic sales market in the world. Despite the recent dramatic change in its economic situation, Russia remains the number one priority market in the CEE region and an important one within the wider European context.
